Works For Jesus

There’s a lot of controversy surrounding Google Print, Google’s online indexing of as much printed material as they can get their information-hungry little hands on.

Meghann Marco, author of Field Guide to the Apocalypse, asked her publisher if she could be included in Google’s index. They told her they don’t do that. Anyway, she wrote this great encouraging letter to Google about their service, and it ended with this great quote:

Someone asked me recently, “Meghann, how can you say you don’t mind people reading parts of your book for free? What if someone xeroxed your book and was handing it out for free on street corners?”
I replied, “Well, it seems to be working for Jesus.”

Amen! I mean… uh, as long as I still get paid plenty of money for my work.

It’s no secret that we, in the US, are wildly over compensated for the work that we do. Unfortunately, this is probably the result of the extortion that nearly all merchants here employ.
