Us = Church

The more time I spend online, reading about what people think, the more I realize how much people don’t like Us, and expect nothing from us but hate, judgment, and discrimination.

Update: Capp writes: “what can we do? what must we do? this must change.”

And my temptation is to say we’ve got to do something BIG. Mass Church-Marketing. Build a website! We-dont-hate-you.com! But I think maybe the more logical approach is for us to encourage one another to be sensitive with our words and deeds.

Do we joke like everyone else?
Do we display prejudices?
How are we treating those living in sin?
Why do we think we’re NOT living in sin?

I think it’s a lot of questions first. And then, I think it’s a lot of changing.

I hate when they do that.

It is so sad that that is what people seem to encounter when they deal with “us”.

It changes by US changing.
Changing=Healing.
Healing so we don’t hurt others by reacting out of our own pain.

If “us”/we could get the hang of being present, relational, accountable, broken, mending people then maybe “us”/we could demonstrate a dynamic life of faith that exists independent of programs, bumper stickers, legislation, agendas, quips, and alienation.

There’s an essential dirty uncomfortable connectedness that we are comfortable missing…

A agree completely with Cory, we must change. However I should say that the thoughts and opinions of the world toward Christians have and are always going to be negative, that is until the day that the Lord comes to get us. On a day to day basis people think that I must be insane to carry a bible to school, that I must hate gay people, that I don’t believe in fun and my favorite I somehow dam people to hell.

The truth, I am insane. However I don’t dam, hate or lack fun. (Despite high school, I am very content.) Many acquaintances say, “You don’t dam people, you don’t hate gay people, you like having fun, and read the bible. I thought Christians were bigots and closed-minded? Your not! Well then, I guess you’re not so bad. ” The ideas of peoples are on more than occasion, ignorant.

Christians are fallible just as much as anyone else, and puerile as well. However the truth and love of our God withstands our stupidity, ignorance, judgments, and misdeeds. Yes, there must be change within the Church, however I do not believe that if change occurred people would not still expect hate, judgment, and discrimination. The change that should occur should be to actually give glory, praise, and worship to the Father, rather than contemplating on the opinions of others. Maybe then, by our actions the world will see that God died, loves and suffered for them.

Cameron, I hear what you’re saying.
And I imagine there will always be rumors about how the Christian community is “up to something.” But I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of the world someday at least believing that they’re not going to be attacked by the Church.

Sanders, Dirty dirty dirty. “We” hate that.
