Prayer Didn’t Work
I caught this on Boing Boing:
A new scientific study shows that prayer didn’t seem to help patients who underwent bypass surgery. In fact, some of the people who were prayed for did worse.
I find this funny on a few levels (none of which is bypass surgery itself).
This is telling of the way a lot of people view prayer. A study like this must assume that prayer deserves a “yes” all the time. Were they trying to figure out if prayer is a lucky charm that you hover over sick people to make them well? How much prayer does it take for someone who’s eaten Krispy Kremes and pizza everyday for thirty years, versus someone whose eaten carrots and Cliff bars?
More importantly, what kind of nutritious snack can I invent that will make me rich and famous?
Hey! This isn’t an online casino!!!
