Reminder That I Can Be Stupid

I’m going through all of Calvin Crest’s worship music in order to have a nice binder of songs for the summer. I came across the song “Romans 16:19.” For those unfamiliar with it, the song basically contains the text of Romans 16:19.

It reminded me of a time a few summers back when I was particularly frustrated with some people I was working around. I had the feeling that some of us were being selfish. That we thought it was all about us. I found a copy of the lyrics for “Romans” and noticed that they read “And the God of peace will soon crush Satan… underneath His feet.” I thought to myself, “all this time we’ve been singing: “underneath YOUR feet.”

“Man,” I thought. “We are so selfish.” So I used this as an illustration to the group.

Later on, they pointed out that the scripture does, indeed, read “underneath your feet.” And rather than scouring the grounds of this Christian camp I work at for an actual Bible, I found a misnoted copy of song lyrics to back up my claim.

They were kind to me.

I’m glad they were kind. It’s been a long time since I sang that song. One that I used to lead with the junior highers back when I was the worship leader on Crestview… 92-94, I think. Man it seems like ages longer ago than that.

Do you enjoy Nickel Creek, Cory? If so, they’re playing in Hanford on July 8th. I’m going. You guys should go, too.

A bunch of ghetto kids and I came up with a super cool rap to insert into that song. We loved it. Not so much the church administration, though. They didn’t love it.

What?! God don’t love gangstas?

I love your willingness to examine yourself, Cory Pina.

didn’t you do that about 3 years ago too? (the summer we were launched jell-o at kids?)

I still love ya Cory!
