Vote For Me

Stephanie was in my office a while ago, and we were talking about the world of Student Government.

As a Junior in high school I ran for ASB Vice President for the following year. My campaign consisted primarily of posters and fliers with profound messages like:

Vote For Cory: He Likes Macaroni and Cheese.

While this is true, it was obviously irrelevant. I began to remember how much school elections - at least in my high school days - had to do with popularity or humor, and how little they had to do with actually doing something good.

When they did have something to do with benefiting the school, it was usually all about promises the candidates really couldn’t keep: we wanted to make pizza cheaper and let Juniors leave campus at lunch during the second semester (important things like that). So, in some ways, I guess we’re preparing students to be real-life politicians.

My friend, Josh, ran for President. We were sort of “running mates” and ended up winning. I don’t really remember what I did for the school after that, but I did read the announcements over the intercom in the mornings. Those were good times.

high school was so funny like that. At the time everything was so crucial and hyoed up. Good times. In other news I am actually graduating in December! One of my dearest professors took me in to his office and shot staright with me, it was awesome! More later.

When I ran for ASB president, my principle campaign strategy consisted of printing a bunch of posters that contained the Websters dictionary definition of the word: Good.

Damn I thought I was clever…
