Niños De Los Hombres

Lyndsay and I went to see “Children Of Men” last night. Pick your favorite hot topic of the day: abortion, pollution, global warming, immigration - that’s what it was about.

Don’t expect warm fuzzies, or even clean language. But if you can handle the violence and potty mouths, it’s a thoughtful story.

I could not stand the movie. I went home and curled into a ball and cried. Mostly it was the violence. To me, the plot seemed ineptly presented and largely a prop for the display of violence.

I do recognize, of course, that conceptually speaking it had a lot of potential. Also, I recognize that I know very little about films in general, and you probably have a better eye for these things.

(Although I didn’t mind the language or politics or whatnot at all.)

(Also: In retrospect, comments don’t look quite the same when, though it took you twenty minutes or so to compose it, it can be read in seconds. It makes it seem abrupt somewhat harsh. Sorry…)

No problem, bro. We get to have our own opinions.

Josh, I read your comment about 6:30 am, and have had some time to think.

Lyndsay didn’t really like the movie either. She also had a hard time with the violence. And even as we were leaving the theater, she asked what I thought, and I said, “well… to say I enjoyed it would be awkward.” Because it wasn’t really the type of experience you “enjoy.”

At the end of the movie we decided it was a little disturbing. But I think that was the point. It was supposed to be disturbing. I think it was supposed to make you look at a situation and say, “Man, what can we do to NOT get there?”

Not to say you should have different feelings. I just wanted to say it’s not surprising that you felt the way you did.

My thoughts on the movie:
While watching it I was disturbed and pretty tense about what was going to come next because I felt that the movie had the ability to do some fairly permanent damage on my mind. My brother and sister left about a fourth of the way through the movie so I was left to watch it alone!
I am glad I stayed, particularly for one scene towards the end. This movie was one to make me think, it however has failed to really resonate with me. It did feel eerily real though.

Hey Cory! Do you and Lyndsay go to the early service or the late on sundays? Just a random question for you =)

I think it’s a Christmas story.

I felt the same way about Santa Clause 4 (Revenge of a Fat Man)… I left feeling a bit disconnected and the violence was too much. The choreography was delightful.
