From The Mouths Of Students

We have a newsletter for the youth that goes out once a month. One of our students, Stephanie, comes in and pulls together several articles and pictures and does a great job getting it together. The last newsletter covered our SnoGo experience, and a perfectly innocent Junior Higher contributed her evaluation of the Junior High retreat. Here is an excerpt:

During free time Cory, Lyndsay, and Jessica taught us a very fun game called “Bang”. While playing the game Cory taught us that beer (as disgusting as it may be) is life. Literally. In the game, to get more life you have to have a Beer card. Cory and many other people kept getting very drunk from all the Life they were using. (There was no real beer, though.)

All of this is true, of course, except for the part about me teaching them that “beer is life” (we save that for college group). Needless to say, we did some editing.

We did, occasionally, change it to Root Beer.

I love the fact that she describes beer as disgusting.

Bang! is a great game. While we don’t change the name for the Beer cards, we usually make the Indians card more PC by calling them pretty much any other ethnicity or people group, e.g., toddlers.
