PiñaBlog Bits and Pieces of Piña

My Day As A Geek Writer

There is a geekish sort of blog that I read because it is both geekish and humorous. They were looking for new writers, and so I applied. They asked me to give it a shot, and I was exceedingly pumped about it because they were going to start me out at $12 a post. It was too good to be true. Write about geeky stuff, be witty, earn cash.

One night I couldn’t get to sleep because I kept thinking about how many blog posts it would take to earn enough money to buy various things.

I wrote for one day, and then told them I couldn’t do it. I was so stressed out about filling the quota and trying to get my real work done at the same time. It wasn’t so much the writing part I didn’t have time for, as much as it was finding things to write about. I realized I didn’t have time to scour the Internet in search for geeky things. That’s why I read the blogs: they do it for me.

Anyway, I guess someday we’ll get a house the old fashioned way: by writing “House” on the outside of an envelope and stuffin’ bills in there every once in a while. My mom would be so proud.

Haha, that’s awesome, Cory! Sorry about the research side of it though. It still makes a great story!

Bubba: your mother is proud even if you never put a nickel in an envelope. Besides, you’re better off writing the geek blog than stuffing nickels for a house. That’ll take you FOREVER, except maybe in Georgia.

Son, I am always proud of you! You are the best son in the world. By the way, you never know who will be reading some of those geek blogs (famous publisher maybe)? Who knows. Maybe you will finally be discovered for the incredibly talented writer that you are. Dave Berry had to start somewhere.

Love, Mom

Stick with it, kid! You have a natural talent. Don’t let nerves get in the way. The best things you write are not the things that you agonize over, but what comes to you as you observe life. If God didn’t want you to write, he wouldn’t have given you the gift.

Love, your other Mom
