The Changing of the Gauze
Now that I am somewhat alert, I figure I should share with you my magical Wisdom Teeth experience thus far.
Yesterday at 11:00 AM we went into the oral surgeon. When they called my name I followed the nurse into a cold room and lied down in the cold chair. This was the first time I have ever been put under for anything. The nurse assured me this would be an “enjoyable” experience.
We started with laughing gas, of which I was supposed to take “5 or 6 exaggerated breaths.” As she requested, I informed her that I was beginning to feel the effects of the intoxication, namely, distinct lightheadedness, to which she replied: “Good.”
Then the needle went in. I could feel myself slowly drifting away into nothingness, but sort of fighting it. I said out loud (I think): “I feel like I’m fighting it.” The doctor, who I did not know had entered the room, spoke up as if concerned and asked what I had said. I repeated: “I feel like I’m fighting it.” They laughed at me, and I proceeded to depart into the netherworlds.
The next thing I remember was touching my goatee with my right hand, but noticing my chin was unable to sense it. I was lying on the couch at home. Don’t know how I got there. I really wanted to tell Lyndsay and Mitch about how the doctor laughed at me, but I couldn’t get the words out. I decided the next best thing to do would be to type it out. But I feel asleep with the computer on my lap, having gotten as far as: “When I was in the chair…”
When I woke up I requested to watch Space Balls, was given some drugs, and then fell back asleep. I am fairly certain that since yesterday morning at 11:00 AM, I have been awake a total of 4 hours.
