Geekiness
In the last several days my Geekiness factor has risen by several percentage points. I’m currently somewhere in the neighborhood of “Geekier Than Average,” yet still far below “Incapable Of Being Understood By Humans.”
I began using a service called Jott, which allows one to call in a note via cellular phone to anyone (or to self), and have your voice transcribed into a text message or email to the person of your choosing. This has allowed me, while driving, to translate my mental notes into physical reminders on the fly (Examples: “Rotate the tires on the Honda,” or “Note to self: No coffee after using mouth wash”). Jott also let’s me use my voice to add events to my Google Calendar (yes… I know… ridiculous).
A few days ago I started using Twitter. Twitter is like your Facebook Status on hallucinogenic pharmaceuticals. The whole point of the site is to answer the question “What are you doing?” People are using the service to post their location, their agendas, their hopes and dreams, and hundreds of other facts only slightly more interesting than what they find stuck in their teeth. You can post to Twitter straight on the site, or via text message and instant message, allowing one to casually update their answers at will, wherever one may be (”I’m on the toilet!”).
So, the obvious next step was to setup Jott to be used with Twitter, so that I can just speak an update, and it will be translated into my Twitter status. It’s not perfect (My “Roast beef sandwich and root beer” was translated into “Roast-beast sandwich and Route beer.”), but it’s sort of fun. The best part is that it’s all free. And the part about sending notes to myself has been very helpful for remembering things that I would normally forget (”Brush your teeth.”)
