Question of the Day

Do you enjoy the holiday season?
Christmas in particular?
Why or why not?

Bonus Question: How do you feel about egg nog?

I have, at different times, loved and hated the holiday season. I like the break from school, seeing everyone who comes home from college, eating gingerbread cookies, the candlelight Christmas Eve service at the church, and I miss the Nutcracker so much I cry at night. But, I hate the pressure involved with buying everyone something (and always wondering if I’ve forgotten someone) and have major anxiety issues with department stores.

I do enjoy the season of Advent - not particularly the holiday (read: shopping) season. I always have mixed feelings about Christmas. I love being around family, but I feel as though the expectations rise higher each year. Perhaps when Jill and I have children we’ll be able to experience the wonder of the incarnation a bit more. I like having Christmas music around (particularly Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas).

At the same time, I appreciate U2’s reflection “If God Would Send His Angels” off of the Pop album for its insightful commentary on the secularization and commercialization of Christmas. I think Bono was, in his own way, writing an advent song.

I feel absolutely great about Egg Nog. Love the nog.

I struggle with how easily this season has become a distortion of our wants over our needs. I love the acts of care and generosity people are provoked into. I’m a sucker for Christmas music.

I loathe egg nog.

I really dig Thanksgiving. And I dig eggnog . . . with the correct magical ingredients added. A little something to protect against the chill, if you catch my drift.

Cory,
I love the holiday season yet I always seem to find myself at my sadest around that time of year. Interesting.
Also, egg nog brings me out of that sadness and into the frothy and thick joys of satisfaction!

Cory,

I will always love Christmas time because that is when you, my wonderful son was given to me by God. The best Christmas gift ever! Bringing you home in that Christmas stocking is a memory i will never forget. I also love participating in helping at least one family per year that is struggling, especially those that have young children. When i shop for them, it gives me wonderful Christmas joy. I love egg nog!

I echo Steven, Love the nog. And my wife listens to christmas music year round, so I better like it. Of my own accord, I do. Christmas is the best and I am lookig forward to our (Tori and I) first christmas as a married couple.
