The Benefits

I’m reading a little through the Shorter Catechism, and suddenly I felt as though I was purchasing an insurance plan:

Q. 37. What benefits do believers receive from Christ at death?
A. The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness,
and do immediately pass into glory; and their bodies, being still united
to Christ, do rest in their graves till the resurrection.

So I just finished taking my ordination exams and I prepared myself by reading through the Book of Order and the Book of Confessions 3 times. It really helped me when I faced (in my exams) questions like this:

1. Two of the deacons in the church, on their own accord, took the Communion Table and etched into it “In Memory of Our Friend” as a memorial of the life of a servant of the church who just passed away. As pastor, how do you respond to this issue?

2. The youth ministry committee has expressed to you, the pastor, its desire to serve potato chips and soda for communion at the next youth retreat. Using the Book of Confessions, do you agree or disagree with their proposal?

3. What the crap do we have elders for?

4. And so on.
