Safe!
I just got my 1958 Gillette Super Speed Safety Razor in the mail from an eBay purchase. I’m kind of excited. Lyndsay says I’m turning into an old man.

I had one of those as a kid. I remember my dad borrowing it because he somehow had some blades for it that he wanted to use. I would be interested in trying to shave with a straight edge some day. Those look plenty serious.

I’m pretty sure they call these “Safety Razors” because straight edges can kill you.

Yeah. Rock climbing can kill you too. I like it though. I’d be careful. I have pared down my risks dramatically. Maybe this could be my living on the edge experience.

From the wikipedia page:
“Prior to the invention of the first safety razor most men used a straight razor. These razors are still available today from several different manufacturers, but they are not very popular, because they require skill to use properly.”
I found this entirely (a) amusing and (b) telling.

Psssh, you gotta go with the straight razor, Cory! That’s what the women want…
Well, or so one would think, though I own one and, noticeably, do not have a woman.
